Bio

Patrick Comer was hired at Westmoreland in the fall of 2011 to be the head women’s and men’s cross country coach. Eleven years later, Comer was hired to work full time in the athletic office as the Athletics and Recreation Technician.  After only seven months in the technician position, Patrick was promoted to Athletic Director.  Comer will oversee Westmoreland’s move from NJCAA Division III status to Division II in the fall of 2023.  In Comer’s first year as Athletic Director, Westmoreland’s men’s cross country team won the WPCC and Region 20 Championships.  The men’s and women’s bowling teams also captured WPCC Championships.  Both teams went on to the National Championships where the men’s and women’s cross country teams placed 7th and 8th in the country. 

Under Comer’s direction, the Wolfpack have become one of the top cross country programs in the region.  The 2022 season saw the men's team win the Wolfpack Invitational for the for the second year in a row.  That was followed up with wins at the Mt Aloysious and La Roche Invitationals, the WPCC Conference championship, as well as the NJCAA Region 20 Championship.  The men's team then went on to finish 7th in the country at nationals, which was the teams highest finish ever.  Dante Frescura earned his second consecutive USTFCCCA All American award.  The ladies team placed first at the Mt Aloysiuos Invitational, on their way to a 8th place finish at the National Championships.  This marked the first time both teams were ranked in the top 10 at the same time.

Overall, the women's program has won nine WPCC championships, as well as as two regional championships. The men, have won six WPCC Championships. Also, they have won regional titles in 2018, and 2022, and were runners up in 2017, 2021.  He has coached back to back NJCAA All Americans in 2020 (Olivia Jumper), and 2021 (Dante Frescura).  As well as USTFCCCA ALL Americans in 2020 (Jumper), 2021 (Frescura), and 2022 (Frescura).  Comer has also won 13 combined WPCC Coach of the Year awards, as well as the 2019 USTFCCCA  NJCAA Division III Women's Central Region Coach of the Year award.  In 2020 the Wolfpack had their highest finish in team history with the women's team placing third at the National Championships.

Comer is a pillar in the Westmoreland County Cross County scene and helped build the program’s home course into a top meet destination. His efforts have helped Westmoreland host one of the largest junior college cross country meets in the area, the Wolfpack Invitational, and serve as host for the WPCC and Region XX Championship meets. In addition, as a member of the Westmoreland County Coaches Association, Comer’s work has enabled Westmoreland to serve as the host for the County High School Championship meet each of the last eight years.

Prior to starting his coaching career, Comer's high school and collegiate careers were also spent in the county. He graduated from Hempfield High School where he ran cross country and track & field for head coach Ron Colland. Comer started his college career at Westmoreland before transferring to Pitt-Greensburg, where he ran cross country for head coach Joyce Brobeck and was team captain of the program and #2 runner all three seasons there.

Comer graduated from Pitt-Greensburg with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. Comer lives in Greensburg, and has three sons; Peyton, Elijah and Declan.
