Baseball Wins Thriller - Drops 2 of 3

Youngwood, PA - Rafael Amanau hit a walk off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Westmoreland CCC defeated Prince George's Community College 6-4 in Region XX play.  Giuseppe Schiano picked up the mound win in relief after allowing two runs in the top half of the eight. Mitch Matlas and Josh Verchuck kept the inning alive to set up the heroics for Amanau and team.  The Owls went on to win game one, 9-3. Matlas's hot bat accounted for two RBI's on the afternoon to put the Wolfpack on the scoreboard.  Prince George's CC took the free opportunities of numerous walks from Westmoreland starting pitcher Garritt Woodburn, who took the loss allowing eight runs in five innings, walking seven and striking out two. The afternoon split sets the Wolfpack's record at 16-12.

On Sunday the Wolfpack hosted Region XX powerhouse Montgomery College in a key Region XX showdown. The Raptors jumped all over the Pack's starting pitcher early and often then held on for 9-5 win. Rafael Amanau racked up three RBI's in the loss as one of his hits on the soggy afternoon was a triple. Game two was rained out and saw Westmoreland drop to 16-13 on the season.
