Westmoreland Ends the Season Against Butler

Saturday saw the final matchup between the Westmoreland County Community College Wolfpack Softball team and the Butler County Community College Pioneers. Westmoreland jumped out to one nothing lead in the top of the first inning, before Butler answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Butler would go score one more run in the fifth, and four more in the sixth. While Westmoreland scored four in the top of the sixth as well. Butler ended up winning this final showdown between the two programs 11 to 5.

Sophomore Ruby Rojas had one hit and two run scored, while Sydney Matijevic had two hits and an RBI. Freshmen Skyler Schaeffer, Kaidence Thomas, Alexis Jellison and sophomore Chloe Trice each had a hit and an RBI as well.

On the mound  Matijevic went the first 5 innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits and striking out 5. Schaefer followed going 0.2 innings allowing four runs on two hits, before Rojas came in and went the final 0.1 striking out the only batter she faced.

The Wolfpack will miss the regional playoffs this season in softball, as they look to reload the team, losing four sophomores this year. Good luck to the sophomores as they move on, and we look forward to the freshmen returning and taking the next step in their college career!
