Women's Basketball Wins WPCC Championship

Youngwood, PA - The women's basketball team captured the 2018 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship with an impressive 84-66 win over the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. Westmoreland wouldn't be denied a title as they were led by sophomore guard Rachel Garris, as she dominated the game from start to finish posting a career high 31 points on the afternoon. Hannah Hempfied drove home 20 points while Baylee Riggle posted 10 points which saw the Wolfpack improve to (21-5). How they got here: Westmoreland defeated Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on Friday 80-51 to advance to the championship game on Saturday. After a rather slow start for the Wolfpack, Lauren Felix got the scoring started. Felix sizzled the nets as she netted 20 points to lead all Westmoreland scorers on the evening. Garris posted 15 followed by Riggle's 12 while Mikala Misleany and Alyssa Kalp both added 10 points apiece.

Westmoreland will be hosting the 2018 NJCAA Region XX Women's Basketball Championships and are the #2 seed and will host #3 seeded Anne Arundel Community College on Saturday at Noon. The winner will advance to Sunday's regional at 1 p.m. against #1 seed Montgomery College.
