Wolfpack Split Four Games in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Westmoreland County Community College baseball team posted a 2-2 record during their annual spring trip to the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC and returned north with a 4-3 record overall.

The trip began with a match-up against Northampton Community College. Northampton took an early lead and pulled away thanks to a five-run sixth inning. The Wolfpack, who committed five errors in the game, managed some runs late, but fell by a 9-3 score.

Westmoreland managed 10 hits in the game, including a 4-for-4 effort from Tommy Kegerreis, who also drove in one and scored one run. Kegerreis had a double in the game, as did Ray Chuba, Noah Sweeney and Matt Wicker. In addition to Kegerreis driving in a run, Wicker and Tanner Orndorff has one RBI each as well.

Max Pici started on the hill for Westmoreland and struck out four in five innings of work.

The Wolfpack bats broke out in a big way in the second game of the day, as they blasted three home runs as part of a 14-hit attack in a 14-3 win over Penn State-Hazelton that was stopped after five innings. Kegerreis had one of the long balls, as he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, but the big hitter was Dom Koch, who smacked a grand slam and drove in six runs in the victory.

The third home run was belted by Chuba, a two-run shot. Others gathering multiple hits in the game were Nico Cuello, Wicker and Orndorff. All of the run support came for Sweeney, who had the start on the mound and threw 3 1/3 innings. He gave up three unearned runs and struck out four in his work. Joel Lonigro threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings and had two punchouts to finish the win off.

The Wolfpack bats were potent again in the first game of the second day, as three runs in the opening two frames opened the flood gates for a 16-5 Westmoreland triumph over St. Clair Community College. Six different Wolfpack players had two hits in the win, led by Sweeney, who went 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs. Collecting three hits was Sebastien Nelson, while Chuba, Kegerreis, Cuello and Orndorff had two hits each. Both of Chuba's hits were triples and Kegerreis launched his second home run of the trip.

In addition to the multiple hits, Kegerreis knocked in four and scored four runs, while Orndorff brought in three runs.

Picking up the pitching win was Matt Henderson, as he threw 4 2/3 innings and gave up three runs, one earned, and struck out three. Cuello closed out the game, tossing the final 1 1/3 innings.

The trip concluded with a tough loss against Henry Ford Community College, who won by a 23-2 score in five innings. Westmoreland was limited to just two hits, including a triple by Sweeney and a single by Nelson.

The Wolfpack had numerous big hitters during the trip, led by Kegerreis, who was 9-for-12 in the four games, scored eight runs, hit two homers and drove in five. As a team, Westmoreland batted .382 (42-110) over the trip with 15 extra-base hits during that span.
