Baseball Goes .500 Against Essex

Monday afternoon Westmoreland County community college played host to CCBC Essex in a make up game that was rained out on Sunday. Westmoreland took a one nothing lead in the third inning off a sack fly from freshman Brady Stevinson, scoring Dylan Stonebreaker. Then the Essex came back with three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. Westmoreland did respond in the bottom of the sixth inning with three more runs off back to back RBI doubles from Logan short and Anthony Massari, and a single by Bobby Etze, before falling in game one 7 to 4. 

Braden Patton took the loss for Westmoreland pitching 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and seven earned runs while striking out three. Sophomore Brody Byrd came out of the bullpen, and went the final 1.1 innings. Brody allowed one hit, no runs while striking out one batter.

 

Game two saw sophomore left-hander Travis Keister take to the mound and go seven strong innings, allowing only two hits, one run, and strikingout nine Knights, In the Wolfpack's, 4-1 victory over Essex. Westmoreland had two singles in the bottom of the second inning, both producing a run each. Tanner Colflesh singled and drove in Massari, then freshman Matt Scarpa singled and drove in Colflesh. Westmoreland would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Matthew Perez doubled, scoring Stevenson, and later a wild pitch would score Perez. 

With the split today, Westmoreland now moves to 8-21 on the season, and will play host to CCAC for a single nine inning game Tuesday at 4:30pm
