Baseball falls to Chesapeake to End the Season

Westmoreland County Community College played host to Chesapeake Community College, in their final home and regional games this past Sunday. Game one saw the Wolfpack fall 8 to 4, which eliminated them from postseason play.

Chesapeake started off the scoring in the top of the first inning after a double and a single, which both scored runs. Chesapeake widened their lead with three more runs in the top of the third off of three RBI singles.

Sophomore Brayden Patton, and freshmen Brady Stivenson, and Troy Waugh each had two hits for the Wolfpack. While Matthew Perez and Matthew Scarpa each collected one hit each. Anthony Massari, Patton, and Stivenson had the three RBIs in the game for Westmoreland.

Freshmen Jacob Smith got the start for the Wolfpacl, and went the first 3.2 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3. Freshman Sam Criger came in relief and went the final 3.1 innings of game one allowing 1 run on 4 hits.

Game two saw Chesapeake score four runs in the first and nine runs in the second on their way to a 14 to 6 victory in game two. Perez collected two hits in game two, one of them being a grand slam in the third inning, his team leading second home run of the season. Massari collected two hits as well driving in a run. Sophomore Jack McBride had a hit and drove in the other run for Westmoreland. Smith, Travis Keister, and Tanner Colflesh each added in a hit for the Wolfpack as well.

Patton was on the mound to start game two and went 1.2 innings surrendering 13 runs. Sophomore Brody Byrd came in relief and went 5.1 innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits.

With these losses, Westmoreland finished their inaugural Division II season with a record of 11 and 28. This season saw a lot of growth from the start of the season, and with the large number of the freshmen class returning next year, we look forward to the Wolfpack taking the next step towards a regional championship next spring!
