Big First Inning Helps Wolfpack Take Game One

A six run first inning helped the Westmoreland County Community College baseball team earn an 6-4 win over CCBC Catonsville in Game 1 of a regional doubleheader Saturday afternoon.  The big play in the inning was a double to center field by third baseman Wyatt Nehls, which cleared the bases scoring 3 runs.  

Dylan Stonebraker, Brandon Bell, Jake Smith, and Jake Gedekoh each collected a hit a piece for the Wolfpack.  Smith hitting his second double of the season.  Stonebraker and Bell both drove in a run a each.  Brady Stivenson had the loan stolen base for Westmoreland as well.  

On the mound Elliot Sterner earned his first win of the season going the distance, pitching all 7 innings, for his first complete game of the season.  Sterner allowed 5 hits in his seven innings of work, allowing no earned runs with striking out 5.

 

Game two saw Catonsville jump out to a 5-0 lead after one inning.  Nathan Papuga took to the mound going 4 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits. Brady Stivenson followed and went 2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits.  Sam Criger finished off the 7th inning allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs.

Westmoreland had 7 hits in game two led by Gedekoh's 2 hits.  Larry Weaver had a triple, and Riley Smith, Stivenson, and Dyson Murner each had a hit a piece.

It will be a quick turn around as Westmoreland will travel to Frederick Community College on Sunday for another Region 20 doubleheader starting at 1pm.
