
Westmoreland Brings Home their First Win of the Season
The Westmoreland Wolfpack got their first win of the season beating the Penn Highland Black Bears 79-71. The two teams met in their second game of the Beaver County Community College tip-off tournament on Saturday Nov.9.
The game started out slow for the Wolfpack as they found themselves down 26-10 with just over 11 minutes left in the first half. Westmoreland tightened up on the defensive end coming up with a lot of big stops. They also got hot on offense scoring 19 points over the next 6 minutes of the game. With just under 5 minutes remaining in the first half the score was Penn Highlands 31 and Westmoreland 29. The teams would go on and exchange several buckets before the half ended. The wolfpack trailed by 1 at the break by the score 41-40.
When the second half started, it didn't take long for the wolfpack to gain the lead. At the 17:34 mark, point guard Adam Calderon hit a three-point shot to give Westmoreland a 49-46 lead. The teams would go back and fourth over the next 15 minutes until Jaisean Blackman found Colin Masten on a full court throw ahead layup to give Westmoreland a 71-70-point lead. The wolfpack would not give up the lead again and go on to win the game 79-71. Freshmen Lorenzo Gardner led Westmoreland with 15 points and Jaisean Blackman had another double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Westmoreland's record moves to 1-2 on the season. Their next game will be on Thursday No.14 when the wolfpack travel to Butler County Community College. That game will start at 6pm.
