Golf Comes Back on Day 2 to Win the Region

Monday and Tuesday saw the Westmoreland County Community College Golf teams take part in the NJCAA Region 20 Championships at The Links at Spring Church.

On day one freshman Conner Iarussi took the lead and never looked back playing a 1 over par round of 73.  Carson McCully continued to play solid golf as a shot a 79. Sullivan Smith and Bryan Materkowski rounded out Westmoreland's scoring players with rounds of 92 each.  Rylan Keslar struggled on day on with a score of 99.  Westmoreland trailed Butler Community College by 9 strokes after day one by a score of 327 to 336.

Day two saw a totally different round for Keslar, as he dropped 26 strokes from day one score as he finished with a round of 73 for day two.  Iarussi continued to be strong with a round of even par golf, scoring a 72. McCully had a 85 for the day while Smith rounded out the scoring with a 90, and Materkowski ended round two with a 93.  Westmoreland made up the 9 strokes from day one to win their first NJCAA DIII Golf Championship under coach Jeff Black.

On the women's side of things Kylie Kadas was pushed on both days by golfers from Anne Arundle and CCAC.  On day one Kadas shot a solid round of 101, which was good enough to have her in second place going into day two.  Day two saw her record a score of 104, which gave her a two day total of 205.  That score was good enough to place her second overall for the event.

With the men's team win, this will be the first trip to the NJCAA National Championship for the full men's team, and Kadas will compete in the National Championship for the second consecutive season.  The national tournament will take place June 4th to June 7th at Chautauqua Golf Club in New York hosted by Jamestown Community College.
