Big Third Quarter Sinks Wolfpack Against CCBC

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Despite double-doubles from Hannah Hempfield and Mackenzie Markle, the Westmoreland County Community College women's basketball team couldn't overcome a tough third quarter, as the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) scored a 58-41 victory Wednesday night.

Hempfield scored six points in the opening quarter, which helped boost the Wolfpack to a 12-9 lead after one frame. Hempfield and Markle both scored six in the second quarter, but CCBC scored the final bucket of the quarter to take a 25-24 advantage into halftime.

Westmoreland came out of the locker room shooting cold in the third quarter, as CCBC outscored them 25-6 to seize control and the Wolfpack were unable to cut into the deficit in the final period to suffer the loss.

Hempfield set a season-high with 20 points in the game and finished with her first double-double of the year by hauling down 10 boards. In addition, she made five steals, her third straight game with 5+ thefts. Markle finished the night with 16 points and 12 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the year. The Wolfpack leader on the glass was actually Julea Claycomb, who snared 18 rebounds, her eighth game this year with double-digit boards.
