Wolfpack Edged by Butler 51-40

BUTLER, PA. - Hannah Hempfield and Mackenzie Markle both scored 17 points, but the Westmoreland County Community College women's basketball team was held to four points in the fourth quarter in falling 51-40 at BUtler County Community College Saturday.

Butler pulled in front by a 15-9 score after the opening quarter and increased their advantage to 27-16 by halftime. The Wolfpack heated up in the third quarter, as Hempfield scored nine in the frame and helped Westmoreland trim the deficit to 41-36 heading into the final period. But the Wolfpack ran cold in the fourth, as they were held to only two baskets and Butler held on for the victory.

Hempfield and Markle posted solid lines in the game. Hempfield notched 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Markle recorded a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

The loss means the Wolfpack will be the second seed and play at Butler next Saturday in the title game of the WPCC Tournament. Tip-off for the championship game is set for 6 pm.
