Hempfield & Markle Garner All-WPCC Accolades

YOUNGWOOD, PA.- Westmoreland County Community College sophomore Hannah Hempfield and freshman Mackenzie Markle were named to the All-WPCCC team this past weeekend after the leagues's tournament concluded. 

In Hempfield's second year as the Wolfpack's starting point guard, she averaged 15.4 points per game to rank fifth in the WPCC, as well as 7.4 rebounds (seventh, 3.9 assists (second) and 3.3 steals (second). Her high point total came Jan. 20 against Potomac State when she scored 24, one of three games she surpassed 20 points during the season.

Helpfield posted strong numbers throughout the season, as she recorded two double-doubles and one triple-double, which came Jan. 30 when she compiled 21 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assist in a loss to Hocking. She narrowly missed another triple double earlier that week when she finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven asssists in a victory over Northern Virginia Jan. 25th. 

In Markle's first season playing for the Wolfpack, she ranked as one of the top scorers in the conference, ranking third in the WPCC with 17.4 points per game. An efficient scorer, she also led the league in field goal percentage, as she made 45.2 percent of her shots from the floor. 

In addition, Markle was one of the top rebounders as her 11.4 boards per game was second in the conference only behind teammate Julea Claycomb (13.5). Markle finished the year with 12 double-doubles, which included 18 points and 16 rebounds in a victory over Butler Nov. 25 and 26 points and 12 boards in a home game against Penn State-Dubois Jan. 4. 

The Wolfpack will serve as the hosting team for the Region XX Tournament this Saturday and Sunday. Fourth-seeded Westmoerland will begin the women's tournament when they take on #1 Prince George's at 12pm Saturday. The Winner of that game will take on the winner of #2 Anne Arundel and #3 Butler, who play at 2pm Satuday, in the championship game at 12pm on Sunday.
