Wolfpack Women Complete Strong Season
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. – The Westmoreland County Community College women's bowling team recently completed the 2020 season, which included a runner-up finish in the WPCC, by competing at the NJCAA National Championships.
The Wolfpack placed second at the WPCC Championships, held at Coral Lanes on Feb. 21, as CCAC took first place as a team. Placing in the top five for Westmoreland was Haley Wedow, who earned fourth place by scoring 1,341 to just edge out Alyssa McClintock, who totaled 1,325 for fifth place. Wedow had the highest team totals in doubles action (490) and five-man (465), while McClintock scored 467 during singles play to lead the team. By placing in the top five, Wedow and McClintock earned All-Conference recognition.
Also finishing in the top 10 was Julia Jumper, who placed seventh, just ahead of Olivia Jumper in eighth place.
The next week was the Penn Highlands Region Championships, which once again saw the Wolfpack earn second as a team behind CCAC. McClintock had a strong performance for Westmoreland, as she scored 505 in doubles, 504 in singles and 448 in five-man to tally 1,457 for the tournament and take fourth place overall.
Joining her in the top 10 for the day was Julia Jumper, who scored 1,278 to take sixth place, and Wedow, who finished in seventh.
The season culminated with a trip to the NJCAA Championships, which returned to Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga near Buffalo. The Wolfpack finished 13th overall out of 19 teams at the event. Wedow was the top bowler in the tournament for Westmoreland, as her high of 478 in the final three games pushed her total to 1,565 for the weekend to place 66th out of 94 total bowlers.
The Westmoreland bowlers were clustered together in the overall standings. Olivia Jumper was next on the team list in 68th place, while Julie Jumper (71st) and McClintock (72nd) were back-to-back and Jaquie Thompson earned 78th.
