WESTMORELAND'S BARTLOW EARNS YWCA SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD
GREENSBURG, Pa. - After completing a remarkable cross country career in the fall, Westmoreland County Community College sophomore Chelsi Bartlow was named the 2019 YWCA Westmoreland County Sportswoman of the Year for Individual Excellence and will be honored at their annual awards banquet on April 15th.
The YWCA Westmoreland County Annual Sportswomen of the Year Awards Banquet recognizes the outstanding achievements of Westmoreland County female athletes. There will be 11 awards presented that evening, including Individual awards for Sports Girl, Sports Teen and Sportwoman of the Year and Teen Sports Team and Women's Sports Teams of the year.
The honor is well deserved for Bartlow, who has been the Wolfpack team captain for both of her seasons with the program and holds the College 6K record. This past fall, Bartlow finished in the top 10 in four races, cuminating in her first WPCC and Region XX Division III Individual Championships. With Bartlow leading the Wolfpack, the program captured its fourth straight WPCC title and finished as the Region runner-up as a team.
Individually, it was the second consecutive year Bartlow earned All-WPCC and All-Region honors, as she qualified for the NJCAA Championships. At the national meet, she placed 19th overall in a pouring rain to collect her second Top 20 finish at NJCAAs.
While her athletic achievements are impressive, Bartlow's resume academically and in the community is just as steller. In the classroom, she has made the President's List each of the last two semesters with GPAs above 3.5. She boasts an overall GPA just under 3.5 as an Electrical Engineering Technology major and will graduate in May with her Associates Degree. Outside of the classroom, she assists the Wolfpack program with regular clean-ups of the 5-Star Tral, as well as assisting with youth cross country clinics, all while also working in Greensburg to help pay for schooling.
"Chelsi is one of the hardest workers, academically and athletically, that I have ever had the pleasure of coaching in my eight years at Westmoreland," said Wolfpack head cross country coach Patrick Comer. "It has been such a pleasure to have her as a member of our program and she has set the standard very high for student-athletes to come."
This year's YWCA Westmoreland County Sportswomen of the Year Awrads Banquet will be April 15th at the Ramada Inn. The keynote speaker will be Megan Bratkovich, Director of Athletics at Penn State New Kensington with emcee Karen Struble Myers, Associate Director and Director of Development at the Fred Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College. In addition to the keynote, the event also features a three-course meal, presentation of the awards ceremony and inspirational stories of women & girls that defeated all obstacles to achieve success.
