Wolfpack Women Place Second in the Region
Saturday morning the Westmoreland County Community College men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Hagerstown Community College to compete in the NJCAA Region 20/WPCC Conference races.
The course was rolling hills, but still produced some very nice times for the Wolfpack. The women's team placed second to Potomac State in the event. Freshman Kylie Klinger led the way again for the Wolfpack placing 7th overall with her best time of the season of 23:46. Sophomore Savanna Orner placed 11th overall followed quickly behind by freshman Lexie Kepple in 12th. Both again had season best times of 24:46 and 24:56. EVA Lichty and Avery Baily both ran personal best times of 28:16 and 31:44. This was a 2 ½ minute PR for Lichty and a 4-minute PR for Bailey. Klinger, Orner, and Kepple will all have the opportunity to compete at the NJCAA National Championships in Richmond Virginia on Saturday November 9th.
On the men's side Freshman Adam Halinka once again led the Pack with his 9th place finish overall. His time of 34:38 was an almost 3-minute improvement over his last 8k. Tyler stone also finished the race strong in a time of 42:02 which was good enough for 13th place overall.
In this race, the WPCC Conference race was scored as well, with Klinger and Halinka both finishing as runners up in the conference race scoring.
With that the season ends for about half the team, and it has been a pleasure to see these student athletes from the first day of practice till the end. We look forward to the freshman returning next season and to the sophomores, good luck as you move on from Westmoreland. Also, good luck to Kylie, Savanna, and Lexie at the NJCAA National Championships in two weeks.
