Women's Cross Country Compete at National Championship
On Saturday, November 9 members of the Westmoreland County community college women's cross country team traveled to Richmond Virginia to take part in the NJCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships. West Moreland had attended the national championship 10 times prior at the Division III level. This was their first appearance as a division two school.
It was a stacked field of 317 of the best Division II junior college runners from across the country. All three of Westmoreland's runners saw season best times on the course at Pole Green Park. Freshman Kylie Klinger was the first member of the Wolfpack to cross the line in 227th place in a season best time of 23:23. Not far behind came sophomore Savanna Orner in a time of 23:52, in 243rd place. Rounding out the trio was freshman Lexie Kepple in 261st place, finishing in a time of 24:27.
Westmoreland got its first taste of the division to national level of competition, and is looking to establish itself at the division II level the same way it was a major player at the division III level.
Good luck to our only sophomore Savanna as she graduates in December from Westmoreland, and to the freshman, we hope to have you all back next fall to help us continue to grow the program.
