WOLFPACK ERUPT IN 13-6 WIN OVER CCAC-SOUTH

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Westmoreland Count Community College baseball team rallied from a 5-0 deficit by exploding for 13 runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 13-6 triumph over CCAC-South Tuesday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled to be played at South, but was moved to Westmoreland due to field conditions following the weekend rain.

South slowly built a 5-0 lead in the early innings, aided by the Wolfpack. An error allowed an unearned run to score in the first and another error in the third inning helped South score one of their two runs that frame. The lead grew to 5-0 with two more South runs in the fourth and Westmoreland looked like they had a big mountain to climb, as they managed just one hit through the first five innings.

That changed dramatically in the sixth inning, as the Wolfpack sent 17 men to the plate and 13 came around to score. Westmoreland managed 10 runs before the first out was recorded and added on three more in the inning, The rally started with singles by Justin Brestensky and Tyler Kuhns and Nico Cuello, who doubled earlier in the game, roped an RBI double to score Brestensky. Other big hits in the inning came from Zach Blystone, who stroked a two-run double, as did Brestensky in his second at-bat of the inning. Also driving in runs in the inning was Brendan McCormick with an RBI triple to deep center and run-scoring singles by Kuhns, Nate Lamark and Trevor Nelson to complete the barrage of runs.

Nelson's RBI single helped his cause, as he had the start on the mound as well. He protected the big lead by striking out the side in the sixth and holding South scoreless in the seventh as well. South managed to score once in the eighth to trim a run off the deficit and put the first two runners on in the ninth. Brestensky was called in to close it out and he struck out two and got a ground ball to end the game and give the Wolfpack their second straight win over South after Westmoreland took game two of Saturday's doubleheader as well.

Nelson picked up his first win of the year after throwing 8+ solid innings and struck out six. Leading the Wolfpack offense, which collected 15 hits in the victory, was Brestensky and Kuhns, who had three hits each, while Bresntensky also drove in two and scored two. Cuello, McCormick and Blystone had two hits apiece as well and Cuello, McCormick and Lamark scored two runs apiece.

Westmoreland will be back on the field Thursday with a road trip to Butler CCC for a single game due to start at 4:30 pm
