Strong Game Two Earns Baseball a Split with Cecil

Saturday afternoon saw Westmoreland play host to Cecil College in the NJCAA Division II doubleheader. Westmoreland carried a 3 to 1 lead into the fourth inning where a two run homerun tied the game. Then, Cecil scored 2 more runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 5 to 3 victory in game one.

In the third inning, Matthew Scarpa let off with a walk, followed by a Troy Waugh Single. Brady Stivenson then bunted, and he reached on an error, loading the bases. Sophomore Jack McBride, then hit into a double play which scored Westmoreland's first run of the game. Next came Anthony Massari, who roped a double that scored Waugh. Then Matthew Perez traded places with Massari at second base, as he doubled scoring the Wolfpack's third run.

On the mound, Jake Smith went all 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits. While walking 3 and striking out 6 batters.

 

Game two saw Westmoreland fall behind 2-0 early on, before scoring 2 runs in the fourth, 3 runs in the fifth, and 1 run in the sixth on their way to a 6 to 3 victory of game two.

The Wolfpack tied the game up at two thanks to back to back bases loaded walks to Brayden Patton and Dyson Murner. In the fourth inning, Massari broke up the tie game with another RBI double, followed by Braden Patton's two RBI single. Westmoreland than capped off their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Matthew Perez single, which scored Brady Stivenson.

Travis Keister Went the first 5.1 innings to earn the win. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, and striking out 6 batters. Dylan Stonebraker closed out the game going 1.2 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2 on his way to his first save of the season.

The Wolfpack will be right back at it Sunday afternoon as they will play host to Prince George's Community College for doubleheader starting at noon.
