Back to Back Invite Championships for Men's XC
Westmoreland County Community College's men's cross country team opened up the season with the 12th Annual Wolfpack Invitational. Mt Aloysius, La Roche, Penn Highlands, Potomac State, CCAC, Penn State Fayette, and Pitt Greensburg all took part in the 5K event to kick off the season.
The men's cross country team were out to defend last season's Wolfpack Invitational Individual, and team titles. The men's team was led by 2021 NJCAA All American Dante Frescura, who with his first place finish became a two time winner of this event. Frescura was followed closely by his teammates in a very tight "PACK," as the Wolfpack finished with 6 runners in the top 10, and 7 in the top 11. The freshman duo of Frank Benko and Joe Barrick finished in third and fifth place. Sophomores Micah Conroy and Peyton Hause rounded out the scoring finishing sixth and eighth for a team score of 23. Sophomore Jared Bowman and Robbie Halinka took home ninth and eleventh place, and Deklyn Simms, Andy Petrazzi, and Jonathan Kiggins finished 23rd, 24th, and 32nd overall.
"It was an exciting day for both teams," said Coach Patrick Comer. "To see 6 in the top 10, and 7of the top 11 is an amazing thing!" "The runners were not helped at all by the temperature Friday either. We definitely saw slower times because of it," added Comer.
The Wolfpack will travel to Bethany College this Saturday. The Women's 6k will start at 10am, followed by the men's 8k at 11am.
