WOLFPACK SOFTBALL BATTLES POTOMAC STATE IN DOUBLEHEADER

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - After suffering a big loss in game one Tuesday, the Westmoreland County Community College softball team rebounded to battle visiting Potomac State to the end before dropping a 2-1 decision.

Potomac State (17-11), who has scored double digit runs in 13 games this season, took advantage of Wolfpack errors and the long ball to claim a 30-4 win in five innings in the first game. Westmoreland fought to the end in this one too, as despite facing a large deficit, they battled to scratch out three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to build momentum for the second contest.

The starting pitcher for the Wolfpack in game two was Chelsi Bartlow and she held Potomac State scoreless through the first three innings. The visitors finally pushed a run home to break the scoreless tie in the fourth but Westmoreland responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The rally started with a single by Megan Monzo and she took third following a double by Bri McCulley. A wild pitch allowed Monzo to score to tie the game at 1-1.

With a run in the fifth, Potomac State retook the lead at 2-1, but the Wolfpack mounted threats in each of the final three innings. Two runners reached in the fifth and sixth innings, but Potomac State recorded the final out to preserve the lead. In the seventh, Monzo belted a two-out double, but a ground out ended the game, leaving Westmoreland just one run short.

The Wolfpack are now off for the holiday weekend and will return to the field Tuesday, April 23rd, with a doubleheader at Butler CCC. The games will likely determine the top seed for the April 27th WPCC Tournament.
