Softball Closes out the Season Strong

Wednesday saw the Westmoreland County Community College Softball team play host to the Community College of Alleghany County for a scheduled doubleheader.  Due to an injury for CCAC in game one, which dropped them down to 8 players, game one was officially called as a 7-0 win for Westmoreland.  Game two was played as a scrimmage, due to CCAC only having eight players, and borrowing a player from Westmoreland.

In game one, Westmoreland scored three runs in the fourth inning.  Wolfpack's offense in the inning came from a single by Adelaide Flanders and a double by Sydney Matijevic, which scored Aimee Eutsey, Paige Klinger, and Flanders.

Makayla Boda, who pitched in both games of a doubleheader the day before, started the game for Westmoreland. The pitcher surrendered three runs on two hits over her one inning.  Matijevic took over in the second inning for the Wolfpack. The righty went five innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits and striking out four.

The Wolfpack tallied their only home run on the season in game one. Ruby Rojas had a two run shot to center in the fifth inning.  Rojas led the Pack with two hits in two at bats.  Rojas also led the offense with four stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.  Five members of the Wolfpack each collected a hit in the game, Rojas (2), Eutsey, Boda, Flanders, and Matijevic.

Game two was done as a scrimmage and saw the Wolfpack defeat CCAC 9-3.  Westmoreland scored on a passed ball during Adelaide Flanders's at bat and a single by Aimee Eutsey in the first inning.

The Wolfpack scored four runs in the fourth inning.  The offensive firepower by Westmoreland was led by Ruby Rojas, Paige Klinger, and Makayla Boda, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Boda was in the circle for the Wolfpack. The pitcher surrendered one run on three hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking zero.  She was then replaced by Eutsey who was clean in her one third of an inning pitched.

Westmoreland CCC Wolfpack racked up seven hits on the day.  Boda and Rojas each had multiple hits for Westmoreland.  Leah Herman, Eutsey, and Matijevic also tallied hits for the Wolfpack.

With the season schedule now being complete, and Coach Kristin Steininger's first season in the books, the Wolfpack saw a lot of growth from the freshmen this season, and look forward to even more growth next season.  With Aimee Eutsey, Paige Klinger, and Leah Herman completing their two seasons here at Westmoreland, we want to thank them, and wish them the best of luck as they move on from Westmoreland!  This season also marked the end of Westmoreland's involvement with the WPCC Conference for softball, with the Wolfpack will now be moving to NJCAA Division II status for the Spring 2024 season.
