Wolfpack Women Open Bowling Season

Wolfpack Women Open Bowling Season

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - The Westmoreland County Community College bowling teams got off to a rolling start this past week with their first "virtual" bowling match of the season. This season Westmoreland, CCAC, and Penn Highlands are all reporting to their home lanes to compete and each team submits their scores after each match to be posted and ranked.

Wolfpack sophomore Austin Douglas, being the sole male bowler for the Wolfpack, held his ground on the lanes and started his season off right with a score of 138 at the end of the first 10 frames. Douglas smashed it the next two games while hurling a 155 and then a 156 to round off his first series of the year at 449. His series earned him the number 5 spot this week for the men in the WPCC while Joseph Mackowiak of CCAC led the league with a high series of 744.

On the women's side of the lane, first-year bowler Ashleigh Walker and sophomore Jaquie Thompson both throw the ball well to start the season off. Thompson threw for 396 while tossing a 125/137/134. Those scores bring her average up to 132 and gave her the fifth highest series this week in the conference for the women.

On the other side of the ball, Walker set a high standard for herself with a 671 series including a 198, 216, and as of now,  a conference-high 257 game. Through the first week, Walker holds the league's high scoring game as well as the high series for the women's side. Ashleigh's solid start earns her 2 conference points, just ahead of Anna Swindle of CCAC, who earned 1.

The Wolfpack are back at Main Lanes for their next match of the season on Friday, Feb. 12.
