Bio

Zach Kocian is in his sixth year as the assistant coach for the Wolfpack cross country programs.

Since joining the Wolfpack staff, Kocian has helped the women's program finish third at NJCAA Championships in 2020, also having the program's first All-American (Olivia Jumper) in 10 years. He also helped the men's team to their best finish at the NJCAA National Championships, finishing 13th in 2021.  Also, in 2021 he was a big part of helping Dante Frescura to become the first ever men's team All American finishing 9th in the country, and Dante's two USTFCCCA All American awards in 2021 and 2022.  

Prior to joiniong the staff here at Westmoreland, Kocian spent the 2014 season as the Asst Coach at The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.  Kocian is a graduate of Hempfield Area High School, and Universtiy of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, where he is alumni of both of thier XC program.  At Hempfield and UPG Kocian was a teammate of Head Coach Patrick Comer.  Kocian was an All Conference runner all 4 years of college, and was the top runner all four years at UPG as well.  He was the UPG school 8k record holder for 19 years, from 2004 to 2023.  Zach is also a member of the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg's 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame Class.  This honor makes Kocian the first member of the UPG cross country program to be given this honor.
